BATON ROUGE, La. — The University of Arkansas, Little Rock Trojans picked a good time to get hot.
After entering the conference tournament as one of the lowest seeds, the team won the event to earn a trip to the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
Now Little Rock is making a name for itself.
It took a while for the Trojans to find its offense, but once it did, it has forced a decisive game with LSU on Monday night. The winner of that game moved on to the Super Regionals.
UALR 10, LSU 4
Angel Cano has made a name for himself in the Baton Rouge Regional. He had five RBI in Sunday nights game at started at 8 p.m. on the way to leading University of Arkansas, Little Rock to a 10-4 win over LSU.
Cano’s first big hit came in the second inning. He delivered a two-run home run.
Then in the third, the Tiger pitching had loaded the bases with three walks as Cano came to bat.
Cano had two-strikes and then fouled off three straight pitches before getting one that he delivered to the outfield for a three-RBI double.
That big swing came in the third inning and his RBIs were enough to secure the win over LSU.
UALR 8, Dallas Baptist 6
Sunday after noon, the Trojans eliminated Dallas Baptist from the Regional in the consolation brackets. The Trojans won the contest, 8-6.
Ty Rhoades hit the first of two homes for the Trojans in the first inning. Rhoades launched a three-run home run to give UALR an early lead.
Cano had a home run in the fourth. His two-run shot helped the Trojans increase the lead.
UALR 22, Rhode Island 10
The Trojans broke out the bats in their first game of the consolation bracket. They defeated the Rams of Rhode Island, 22-10.
Cano once again led the way for UALR. He had seven RBI from three hits which included a home run and two doubles.
Zach Henry also had four RBI for the Trojans.
The Rams had narrowed the gap to 15-10 in the eighth inning, but the Trojans scored seven runs in the ninth to put the contest away.
LSU 7, UALR 0
UALR could not find an offensive flow as they failed to score a run in their first game of the Regional.
LSU used dominate pitching to seal the victory, 7-0.
