Supporting Rural EMS

Posted

More than most, Arkansans understand the importance of dependable rural emergency medical services (EMS) providers. In rural areas where local hospitals are not always easily accessible to those needing immediate assistance, quick and reliable EMS providers are critical. Unfortunately, staffing shortages, coupled with skyrocketing equipment and fuel costs, are forcing EMS providers to make difficult choices to reduce or even cease operations in certain areas.
As a direct response to this crisis, I am proud to cosponsor the Supporting Our First Responders Act. This comprehensive approach is designed to ensure that rural EMS providers have the necessary resources to deliver timely, high-quality care to every area in the country. This bipartisan, commonsense bill will assist EMS providers in hiring and retaining qualified personnel, training reimbursements, facility upgrades, and more.
To further bolster rural EMS capabilities, I’m proud to cosponsor the Protecting Access to Ground Ambulance Services Act. In rural Arkansas, residents often live a significant distance from their local hospital, and road conditions are not always favorable. This bipartisan bill will be a considerable step in ensuring all communities have access to quality emergency ambulance services.
I am grateful for all EMS first responders who work around the clock, regardless of the conditions, to keep our loved ones safe during emergencies. Their dedication and selflessness are commendable, and I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure they have the resources they need to succeed.
