Harrison Fire Department responded to a reported partial collapse of a building in downtown Harrison at 2:56 p.m. on Friday, March 7.
Fire Chief Marc Lowery reported, “Upon arrival at 102 West Stephenson, we confirmed an interior half wall, that had been above the front entrance and windows, had collapsed onto the floor. The collapse pushed the storefront windows and door out of their frames. The collapsed wall ran the full width of the store, and was approximately 6 feet tall.”
The address is the headquarters of a non-profit organization — Three Wishes For Ruby’s Residents.
According to the chief, occupants had earlier heard a noise in the area of the collapse, and had been up a ladder to investigate the sound. “Fortunately, the occupant had just stepped off the ladder when the wall collapsed,” said Lowery.
Due to damage to known electrical wiring in this area, the power was disconnected to the building as a precaution. No one was injured and Lowery advised that the building will remain closed until repairs can be completed.
