TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS COME – GREETINGS:
WHEREAS: Mountain Home was incorporated in 1888 after becoming the Baxter County seat in 1873. Though small in its early years, the city grew quickly during the construction of the Bull Shoals and Norfork Dams, with dam workers settling in the area;
WHEREAS: The local dams did more than just bring workers to Mountain Home. They provided the impetus to pave streets and install electricity and other infrastructure in the once-isolated community, allowing for economic development;
WHEREAS: Once Mountain Home became better connected to the outside world, visitors started flooding to the city alongside new residents. They enjoyed its easy access to fishing, boating, hiking, camping, and more;
WHEREAS: Mountain Home is now one of the largest cities in the southern Ozarks. It has been named one of the top cities in the country for sportsmen and fishermen and is a place where outdoorsmen, families, retirees, and visitors can all enjoy Arkansas’ natural beauty;
WHEREAS: Governor Sanders’ “Capital for a Day” program highlights great cities around Arkansas like Mountain Home and brings senior state government officials into town to meet with their local counterparts and to ensure that adequate services are provided to all Arkansans; and
WHEREAS: Mountain Home will serve as the eighth “Capital for a Day” under Governor Sanders and will momentarily serve as Arkansas’ seat of government.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, Governor of the State of Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby name Mountain Home, Arkansas, our Capital for a Day on January 31st, 2024, and invite our senior state government officials to join me in a visit to the city.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Arkansas to be affixed this 29th day of January, in the year of our Lord 2024.
