At a special meeting of the Deer/Mt. Judea School District Board of Education held last May 29 on the Deer School campus, Brett Sampley was hired by the board to be the Deer K-12 principal for the 2025-2026 school year. He was hired to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Joe McKinney, accepted by the board last May 12.
Following an executive session at its regular meeting on Wednesday, June 11, the board added the position of school district athletic director authorizing a stipend of $2,000, then assigned Sampley to fill the new position. Sampley is a former Deer coach and was most recently a coach and athletic director at Lamar High School.
The board also elected to hire Georgia Eddings as the school district's administrative assistant.
The board also reorganized its officers, electing Justin Gilmore to serve as president; Michael Rhodes as vice president and Johnny Smith as secretary.
Kenny King was elected to the board in the school elections held last May 13. He defeated incumbent board member Anthony Casey by a single vote.
