Pioneer to be remembered on Mt. Judea Heritage Day

Posted

This year’s Mt. Judea’s Heritage Day celebration will be held on Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on the school grounds in Mt. Judea.
“We host this to bring our communities together and help retain the knowledge of the old ways of doing things,” said Roxan Smith of Mt. Judea Area Alliance. “We’ll demonstrate crafts like cheesemaking, fermenting, wood carving, spinning and how to make rag rugs. And 'Granny's Kitchen' will serve a traditional dinner of beans and cornbread or chicken and dumplings."
“Our students will be there fund raising as well! There will be BINGO, cake walk, baked goods, hot chocolate, apple cider, and lots of craft vendors for your holiday shopping.

“ At noon, we’ll set a headstone for Sam Davis of the Sam’s Throne legend. No one knows where Sam is buried. Local historian Travis Holt will lead a tour to the nearby Davis Cemetery, lay a headstone for Sam Davis next to his wife and tell his history.
The Daniel Family Band will entertain with country gospel, and southern rock music at the festival. Throughout the day, local historians will tell more about the Legend of Sam’s Throne.
