Jasper personnel includes DFC coordinator

OARK — The Jasper School District Board of Education took care of several personnel matters at its regular meeting held Tuesday night, Oct. 15, at the Oark Campus.
A new position is the Drug Free Community Coordinator provided by a federal grant. The coordinator has several duties, primarily working with all segments of the community to provide substance prevention education programs to youth county-wide. The grant was received by the Partners in Prevention Coalition formed by the Newton County Hometown Health Initiative. The grant totals $125,000 a year for five years with the opportunity to reapply for funds for another five years. The school district serves as the grant's fiduciary agent.
The board elected to hire Bailey Taylor for the classified position. The position becomes effective Nov. 1.
Several resignations were received, including, classified, Kingston, Brandon Clark, bus driver; Jasper, Chris Walker, custodian and certified, Oark, Nicholas South, teacher, effective October. 17.
An addendum was approved for Anita Edgmon, aide.
