Jasper girls press way to state tourney

HUNTSVILLE — The Jasper senior girls came out of the huddle with something to prove.
Thursday night in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament, the Lady Pirates met Mulberry.
Jasper walked away with an easy, 74-38 win.
It was all Jasper from the opening tip.
The Lady Pirates scored the first 15 points of the game and had a 20-2 run in the first 6:21 of the game.
Tiana Siebert started the scoring for the Lady Pirates. That was followed by a 3-pointer from Laney Daniels.
Willa Young put the next two points on the board before Daniels added another basket.
Young struck again and Siebert had her second basket.
Jadeyn Middleton scored with 3:57 left in the first quarter to make it a 15-0 game.
Mulberry managed a basket, but Daniels ended the first period by hitting eight more points for Jasper. Six of those points came on two 3-pointers.
Leading, 23-6 after the first period, Jasper grabbed its first 20-point lead of the game with 4:34 left in the second quarter as Camber Shrum hit two free throws for Jasper.
Jasper led, 34-16, at intermission and then moved ahead, 65-39, after three quarters of play.
Leading Jasper in scoring was Daniels. She had 32 points. Middleton finished with 13, Maggie Thomas and Siebert eight each, Shrum seven, Young four and Ray Stokes two.
