The Jasper Community Garden is hosted by the Jasper Methodist Church at no cost and run by members who serve on the board as volunteers. An annual membership fee for gardeners is used to pay the water bills and to replace hoses and other equipment.
"Manure and soil improvements are sometimes donated, which is wonderful. Yet even with only modest expenses, the garden has been operating at a loss as costs for everything have been going up. For this reason, the board recently voted to increase bed fees from $12 to $15. However, this increase will still not cover the expected expenses next year," said President Joseph Morgan.
"Therefore, we would like to encourage individuals and businesses who may be making end of the year donations to consider the Jasper Community Garden. Even small donations can make a big difference to our little organization and help us keep the garden beds affordable," Morgan said.
The community garden is a 501(c)3 organization and can provide a donation receipt.
In addition to end-of-the-year donations, in the spring people who are interested in the garden can join as supporting members. "This can be a great way for people to support the community garden even if they do not want a bed that year," he added.
You can contact the garden officials at PO Box 140 Jasper, AR 72641, communitygarden.jasperar@gmail.com, or you can call the board secretary at 870-204-2352. "We are happy to answer questions or provide more information. We are very proud of the community garden and appreciate all the support that we get from the community," Morgan concluded.
