The Compton Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary hosted a pancake breakfast at the Compton Community Building (old Compton School) on Saturday from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. The event was well attended, with over 110 people being served that morning. The fishing derby at the Community Pond near Fire Station 1 was also a big success, with over 60 children getting to fish that day. There is one more fishing derby, which will take place today (Saturday, May 24). This derby is sponsored by the County Line Baptist Church.
There will be a Wildland Class for volunteer fire fighters or those who wish to become a volunteer fire fighter. The class will take place on Saturday, June 7 at 8:00 a.m. at the County Line Baptist Church. Lunch will be provided that day. For more information, please contact Chief Garland Matlock at 870-204-1845.
Decoration at the Plumlee Cemetery will be on Memorial Day. I think back over the years to all the good old friends and family we have known. Big crowds used to gather for Decoration and the singing and dinner. Our family is not very big any more. Many of our loved ones are gone, so Decoration Day is not the same as it used to be. Still, it is nice to think back to days gone by and remember with fondness the good times we had together.
We are thankful for the good rain we had last week. The garden is growing, the grass is growing, and the chickens are growing. I hope everyone has a blessed week.
The rainy weather prevented Addi and I from attending the decoration at Plumlee this year. I probably have only missed decoration two or three times in my life, but we had decorated our family graves earlier in the week. We also made a trip to Patton Cemetery at Pyatt to help Phyllis decorate the Young family graves on Addi’s side of the family.
