The congregation at the New Hope Full Gospel Church celebrated Pastor Arlis Burks’ birthday on Sunday after morning services. We enjoyed a nice luncheon, followed by singing. Trent and Clint Villines and I sang a few songs after luncheon. We haven’t sung together in many years, but we enjoyed being together again.
The Compton Volunteer Fire Department responded to two fires this past week, with help from our neighboring Hilltop Fire Department. We appreciate their help. Chief Garland Matlock would like to remind folks to be careful when burning. Have water and equipment handy in case the fire spreads. It is always a good idea to call the local fire department if you plan to burn on your property.
Our local fire department, as well as several others in Newton County, need volunteer fire fighters and first responders. Please contact Chief Garland Matlock if you are interested in becoming a volunteer fire fighter or first responder. You can reach him at 870-204-1845. Thank you to our first responders who have gone to the aid of some community members this week, as well. It has been a busy week for our volunteers. We appreciate everything you do for the community.
The Compton Community Association Board of Directors are working on plans for the spring. They held an informal meeting this week. Thanks to Jeff Jech and Mike McGhee for repairing a hole in the floor of the old school building. There are still several projects that need completing around the old buildings and grounds. If you would like to donate to the Community Association, you may contact them through their Facebook page.
