Beaches closed across area

Posted

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summertime activities.
One of those activities is a visit to a waterway for either a canoe trip or for boat rides.
The beaches that dot the area lakes will be more crowded as several have been closed for the upcoming three-day weekend.
According to the Arkansas Department of Health and the United States Army Corps of Engineers one beach in Arkansas has been closed due to E. coli while the others are due to high water.
Waveland Park Swim Beach on Blue Mountain Lake, located in the shadow of Mt. Magazine is the only water area closed due to E. coli.
E. coli testing is done during the spring time and usually there are several beaches in Arkansas that are closed.
Geese are usually blamed for creating the situation. The Army Corps stated that the geese land and nest near the beach creating the E. coli.
There are six beaches on Bull Shoals Lake that are closed. Norfork Lake has six beaches closed and Beaver Lake had three closed.
