As life goes by

Last week: Can you believe it is already June? In fact, a week has already happened. Summer is here and it is getting hot in the afternoon. Swimming pools are open and kids are out of school and heading to the pools and lake for the afternoon. The lake is up and a lot of debris is causing problems for boaters and swimmers. The river and the pool is a better choice for swimming.
I played bridge on Tuesday. Jackie flew out to Florida with her family. They flew from different places so all 32 eating for a week of fun in the sun. I am sure the Humbards of Fayetteville were happy to get out of town since they had just been hit by a tornado a week ago. I am looking forward to hearing all about their trip. I love going to the coast and know they did too.
I met with my book club on Wednesday. There were ten members in attendance. We enjoy sharing with with other. We went to Shirley’s home on the lake.
Friday I drove to Springdale to eat with the lunch bunch at U.S. Pizza. There were fourteen of us with one lady 94 years old and a baby two months old sharing time together.
I count twelve Sunday’s a year at church. I count the money that is taken up in the plate during the services. Many members have their tithes automatically taken out and we don’t have to count that money. There are two people who count together each week. I am a new counter and my partner has had more training than I have had. Thank goodness Jaylyn knows what we have to do. We have had our trainer with us up until today. It makes me a little nervous because we work on two computers and have to set them up for different areas. I believe we got it right!
On June 3, 2001, my first grandchild was born. Colorado is a pleasure to be around. He is a hard worker and a serious student in college. Amanda should be proud of him and I know she is.
I really enjoy the “Gone But Not Forgotten” column each week. The Levi Newton Casey family story was interesting but sad. What hard times the families lived during the Civil War. Levi’s letter to his wife, Delilah, was of interest. I wonder what happened after that.
I guess I will have to read “Which Side Were They On?” written by Barbara LeRoy to find out.
The baseball game with the Hogs and Creighton has been on while I am typing this with the Hogs 8 to 3, at the bottom of the 7th inning. Hoping we continue being ahead.
This week: This past week I played bridge in Springdale at the Senior Center. Thank goodness, I didn’t have to drive in rain or stormy weather. It seems like we are still in the tornado mode. I saw a tornado was captured on video near Oklahoma, New Mexico and the Colorado border Sunday afternoon. This has been a hard spring season for wild and crazy weather. The rain has done a lot of damage in some areas.
I enjoy the “Gone But Not Forgotten” column, particularly when it is about the early Casey or Phillips family. It is fun to learn about our early families. Levi Newton Casey was a private in Company B, 8th Arkansas Infantry (CSA) in 1861.
On November 10, Levi married Deliah (Lancaster) DePriest. He wrote a letter to his new wife. He was at Camp
Johnson Benton County, AR. I loved the letter. It was a beautiful letter but he was killed at Pea Ridge on the day the letter was delivered to Delilah on March 7, 1862.
While reading the obituaries, I found that Gary Fowler, 76, of Jasper passed away on May 17. Gary was married to Glenda Sue (my neighbor) for a number of years. I remember his brothers and sisters. He is survived by Larry and Connie.
On Friday, Jackie and I drove over to Jasper to attend the funeral of Johnny Gus Hudson. He was almost 100 years old. He had a very interesting life. Jackie was friends with Karen Garner so she knew him for years since her mother was his sister.
Take care of yourself. Stay healthy. Enjoy gardening. Enjoy floating the
river.
