This has been an interesting week. On Saturday afternoon, Elisa and I went to the AMP in Rogers to hear Nate Bargatze, a comedian. Jakie and Jane listen to him on Facebook. When I told them what we were doing they both wished they were here to be able to go with us. It was a fun hour. The hardest part of it was being able to find a parking spot and then get out after the show. There were hundreds of cars needing to get out and back on the road. Being patient makes a lot of difference when you are in the middle of all that traffic.
On Monday I went to Springdale to play bridge. The weather was beginning to show up in the area and one of the ladies in the group had a call from her son who told her we should head home because things were beginning to get bad. I had thought it was going to bad around three or four p.m. After we ate lunch, we decided to leave without playing any cards. I had made plans to spend the night with Jackie because we were going to play with another group of ladies on Tuesday. As we had thought, the weather did come in later in the day. By evening we were under storm warnings. We even went into her safe room (her closet in her bedroom) for a time. The electricity went off and then we decided we were going to her kitchen so we could see outside. Little did we realize Jackie’s son, Philip was getting a tornado passing over their home. Their two sons live near them, and they had damage, too. They had trees snapped and blown down with highlines crossing their house and fence. Jackie went to look the next day and said the pictures don’t tell the real story. June Jenks Staggs sent a picture of the route the tornado took over the area she lives in over around the U of A.
The day before Springdale and the area had hail like we haven’t really seen in the past! Elisa stopped at Rachael and Kara’s house and took cover in the house while her truck was being filled with hail. I saw pictures of hail all over Washington and Benton County that was hard to believe how big and how much fell. Knowing how hail is made, it showed we were having lots of uplift in the clouds which makes us know the storms are powerful.
Jackie and I went to a friend’s house in Fayetteville to play bridge on Tuesday. We didn’t have bad weather while we were there. The storms had headed east to hit other states. Seeing their destruction just makes us know how lucky we were even with the damage we got.
On Thursday my friends, Roxie and Terri and I went to Springdale to take food to the workers at Spay AR, which we do once a month as a project our EHC started a number of years ago. We do other projects but have continued because we like to help them out. We also take empty medicine bottles for them to use for medicines for their animals when they need them. We take the labels off before giving them to the center. We three ladies go out to eat after taking the food to Spay AR. We decided to eat at Catfish John’s in Rogers.
