Last weekend in the Arkansas Democrat/Gazette there was an article about “Losing your marbles” that rang a bell. It was an opinion piece by Curtis Varnell.
My sister, Jackie, remembers me coming home with dirty jean knees because I loved playing marbles. It is funny that I still have my “tall” and other marbles that I played with. When I married Grayson, I found out that his mother, Grace, had marbles from when she was a little girl, too. They didn’t look like the marbles I had since she went to school in the 1920’s. Grace loved playing marbles, too. I remember we would play for keeps. The article made the comment that the teachers didn’t like it when the kids played “keepsies” this was intense, cut-throat competition. We would shoot to the hole and then shoot at the other marbles from the hole. We also would drop marbles in a circle and then try to shoot them out of the circles by shooting at them. That was 65 – 70 years ago that I played, and I am not sure I recall everything we did but it was lots of fun. I really need to call Mavis Ann because she always remembers all the games we played. One time when we were in junior high and high school, we decided to play the games we had played in elementary school. It was so much fun and the last time we would play those games unless we played with our kids after we got married and had children.
The Carolina’s are now having to fight fires like the people in California dealt with. The winds and dry weather are not helping take care of the problem. As the forest service personnel are being let go by Musk, they are needed even more. Some of the rangers on the Buffalo River are being let go, too. I am having a hard time feeling good with how this is being done.
You can help the Senior Center by clipping the labels off your Best Choice family of brand products and collect them. Be sure to save the UPC portion. Turn them into the Newton County Senior Activity and Wellness Center. It will help them to provide community services and programs.
I found out that my granddaughter, Mary Margaret, who runs for Missouri State, ran in a tournament in Chicago. She and her teammates came in third place in a relay. That is all I can tell you. I am always proud of them when they do well.
My church had a grandparent shower for our pastor and his wife after church Sunday. It is something we did for our other pastor a few years ago. The gifts are for the grandparents so the parents don’t have to bring a lot of stuff when they come to visit with their baby. The gifts were placed on tables already opened were three beautifully decorated cakes, chocolate, vanilla, and lemon to eat.
Have you ever lost some papers that you need? I have hunted through stacks of papers and still haven’t found them. I have tried to remember where I would have put them and still at a lost! Surely, I will find them.
I have been seeing there have been many children getting measles and some have even died. Adults catch measles, as well. So many people are getting the flu, too. Take care of yourself. Stay well. Have a good week. It is getting close to planting time and as you know we are changing time this weekend. My youngest child, Kara, is celebrating her 41st birthday on Sunday. Man, time doesn’t stand still!
