One of the big problems with getting older is that so many friends and family die. Bonnie Brasel passed away on Jan. 11, at the age of 82. Bonnie married Richard Brasel. I remember them both while we were students at Jasper High School. We would see each other at the school reunions each year. Another friend, Leta Fern Henderson, passed away on Jan. 18, at the age of 83. I remember Leta Fern from high school and later when she and her husband Roy Earl were involved in the music shows they did at the Legion Hut. Leta always made the best fried pies around. She always made some without sugar so her brother-in-law, Garnet could have some since he was diabetic. Karl and I loved going to hear the music and have such good laughs with the group.
This past week many people had such a painful time feeling the loss of 67 people in the crash of flight of 5342, and the helicopter, who were killed in the tragic accident. Watching the stories of many of the people who were on the flights were heartbreaking. Each day we live we need to make the days the best days of our lives.
It is funny how we can live our lives great when a dental appointment is on Monday. Tuesday was my birthday and Elisa had a doctor’s appointment that I needed to go with her, Wednesday was a doctor’s appointment for a check-up, Thursday was a Razorback game, and Friday I met my friend, Sandra, to get two of our TTT girls ready for going camping at War Eagle Camp in June. Sandra and another friend met with our third girl, so we are ready to make our plans to shop and then have a camper party to meet all the families and see what was purchased for the girls to go Another friend passed away this week. Dolores Bernthal was an outstanding person I will really miss her especially each Sunday we sing. She sang soprano and we stood next to each other. Our choir sang at her funeral Saturday morning. We are getting conerned about our choir members dying. Spike Hermes passed away and he sang bass and he is missed, too.
Saturday afternoon my girls and grandson and his girlfriend came out to the house to have a late lunch of stew and birthday cake. We had a good time.
It is always fun coming into town and seeing the community gardens growing. That is such a good idea and I am sure many people have enjoyed having a garden. I believe it is time to start thinking about getting a garden spot ready to plant. With all this warm weather we will get fooled into thinking it is time, but you probably should wait a little longer.
A lot of people are getting sick so be sure to wash your hands and try to stay away from people who are sick. Pneumonia seems to be going around. Stay healthy and happy.
