There is something about the weather that keeps me from realizing it is really Christmas! As the temperature drops, it is beginning to feel more like the season. Choir practice and church activities help make things more like Christmas. Cooking and decorating, along with shopping, go a long way toward the excitement of the season! I should have gotten used to not going home to Mother and Daddy’s since it has been twenty years since we last celebrated at home in Jasper.
My birds are really eating the seeds I put out for them! I noticed I had my Hairy Woodpecker return. I love seeing him. He is big and rules the feeder when he shows up. If you don’t feed the birds, you are missing a good thing. They are such a pleasure to watch.
This you past two weeks I have been helping out at God’s Pantry in Garfield. Each Thursday the pantry is open to families who need help with food. They have a place where you can go to purchase clothing, furniture, and anything you might need. The club I am a member, Hobbits, has a Christmas tree with tags with information for purchasing items for a child around Garfield. There were almost 90 children we helped have a wonderful Christmas. Members helped organize and then hand out the gifts when the parents came on Thursday to get their food and the gifts. They get wrapping paper, candy, blankets and books for the children. I worked three days, which included the Monday to organize. It is a special time for those families and for those of us who were able to help them make their Christmas better. I know there are many areas where they do the same thing. Merry Christmas.
Another friend passed away. Spike was very active in our church. He and his wife sang in the choir, Spike on the church board, and they played pinochle until his wife became unable to be a part of the groups. She died two years ago. Our choir will sing at his service on Monday. Spike will be missed. He always made sure I had turned off the lights and locked the doors after pinochle. In our church meetings, Spike always had questions about the financial reports. He had a sharp mind and always wanted everything correct.
Have a great Christmas, enjoy church services, and family! Merry Christmas.
