Springdale has been working on a park for the city! A number of people felt this was a great plan and donated the land, money for landscaping, money for equipment and a new design which has a large pavilion to be used with family friendly events. Jenee Fleener, a native of Springdale, was invited to be the featured performer at the grand opening Friday, Oct. 11. Jenee is a five-time Country Music Association Musician of the year, and she played her fiddle on Friday evening and played on Saturday morning during a music jam after a free breakfast was served to all attending. The dozens of musicians who had come to play in the jam and with Jenåee and her band had guitars, mandolins, fiddles, banjos, and upright basses. It made me think of jams played in Mountain View around the square. The Wood Box Heroes are a wonderful group of musicians who play with Jenee Fleener. They are very talented and a person could listen to them for hours and hours! Jenee has played with Chris Stapleton and Josh Martin, who wrote some of the songs on their CD. The first person I noticed in the park was Helen Keener, Jenee’s mother. The band was setting up and practicing, checking on sounding, etc. When Jenee was just a little girl, she and her family and friends traveled to places so Jenee could play her violin. We talked about the fun times as Jenee was growing up into the outstanding violinist she has become. Every time we had an assembly at school, our principal, Miss Hill, encouraged her to play. What an amazing weekend! To top it all off, Jenee was asked to play the National Anthem at the football game before the concert! We are getting ready to see the biggest and brightest “supermoon” of 2024, on Oct. 17. It is called the Hunter’s Moon. There will be one more supermoon on Nov. 15. It won’t be as big as the one this month, but will be one to check out. Hope you saw the Northern Lights last week.
Got my flu shot the other day and am getting ready to take the COVID shot pretty soon. I am going to be working at the polls starting Oct. 21, and continue two weeks with early voting. I want to be protected from all the germs going around this time of the year. Be sure to VOTE!
Stay healthy. Have a great fall season. I am beginning to see trees changing colors. Since no rain, there will be a short time for colors.
