Thomas “Newton” Caldwell, age 74, of Marble Falls, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, in Branson, Missouri. He was born October 2, 1941, in Bernice, Louisiana, the son of Daniel and Helen (Baldwin) Caldwell. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.
Newton lived his life in the words of Henry David Thoreau:
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.
Live the life you have imagined.
It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.
Life is frittered away by detail . . . simplify, simplify.”
Newton was a member of MENSA, an atheist, a sweet curmudgeon and an avid lover of nature. He had a big following online who will miss his frequent posts of puns, observations and photographs of nature, keen wit and life philosophy. Understanding the beauty of art, Newton was a photographer, painter, sculptor, graphic designer, and a nature columnist for the newspaper in Monroe, Louisiana. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Newton will be dearly missed. His fur babies will miss him as well: Rascal and Katie his two dogs, his feral feline affectionately known as "Rotten Cat" and Pogo the possum.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Newton is survived by a son, Tom Caldwell of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Cora Cook Hammond and husband Christopher of San Antonio, Texas; and three grandchildren, Marshall Hammond of San Antonio, Texas, Julian Caldwell of Waldorf, Maryland, and Jasmine Dwyer and husband John of Irmo, South Carolina.
