Carl David Sheldon, 89, of Low Gap, died Thursday, May 26 (2016) at Harrison. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Low Gap Full Gospel Church with Donnie Villines officiating. Burial will follow in the Low Gap Cemetery under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Jasper. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

The son of the late Hiram Abner and Ora Latisha (Major) Sheldon was born Aug. 8, 1926, at Plattsmouth, Neb.

He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Carl earned the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 5 bronze service stars, National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal.

He had worked as a maintenance engineer for Warren Petroleum and moved to Newton County in 1978 from Mont Belvieu, Texas. Carl and Betty were married on April 23, 1955 in Oshkosh, Neb., and just celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Children were his joy and he loved inventing things for them.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Lin Sheldon; a daughter Nellie Rose Ingersoll; three sisters and four brothers.

Survivors are his wife Betty Jean (Burdick) Sheldon of Low Gap; two sons David Lee Sheldon and Leroy Ace Sheldon both of Harrison; two daughters Emma Jean Griffith of Low Gap and Kimberly Ann Fears of Shiloh; 14 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Zachary Daniels, Johnathon Smith, Steven Robbins, John Griffith, Jacky Fears and Edwin Krumweide.

Honorary pallbearer is Matthew Krumweide.
