Barbara Ellen Hudson, 86, of Jasper

Barbara Ellen Hudson, 86, of Jasper, died Saturday, April 30 (2016) in Jasper. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 4, from 6-8 p.m. at the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Harrison. Services will be held on Thursday, May 5, at 1 p.m. at Jasper United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Hudson-Akers Family Cemetery near Jasper. Larry Acton will officiate.

The daughter of Francis and Margaret (Magel) Fry was born on Nov. 3, 1929 in Detroit, Mich. She married John Wallace Hudson on Feb. 3, 1950. They celebrating their 66th anniversary.

Barbara was a member of the First Christian Church in Harrison and after moving to Jasper attended the Methodist Church in Jasper. She worked at the Security Bank in Harrison for many years in the public relations department. She was past president of the Business and Professional Women’s Association. While in Jasper, she served on the Newton County Nursing Home Board of Directors and the Newton County Special Services.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Elmer Fry and two daughters, Bobie Dean and Frances Lair.

She is survived by her husband, John Wallace Hudson of the home; three children, Bill Hudson and wife Angela of Harrison, Arkansas, John W. Hudson Jr. of Jasper and Benta Hicks of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Edna Fry of Malibu, Calif.; 7 grandchildren, Sandy Purifoy, Brandon Lair, Heather Dean, Chris Hudson, Caleb Hicks, Isaiah Hicks and Noah Hicks; 10 great-grandchildren, Brady, Trip, Trent, Cassie, Alivia, Lucy, Kyndall, Addyson, Kennedy and Kobe; special family members, Dorie and Houssein Pourshafie; and many other family and friends who will mourn her passing.

Pallbearers include Brandon Lair, Caleb Hicks, Isaiah Hicks, Donnie Smith, Jack Kelly, Chuck Crouse and Chris Hudson.

Scott Phillips is serving as honorary pallbearer.
