Augusta (Gussie) Olsen, 98, of Mountain Home

Augusta (Gussie) Shofner Olsen, 98, of Mountain Home died on Feb. 2, (2018) in Mountain Home. Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Roller Funeral Home. Funeral followed at 2 p.m. with Dr. Tad Rogers of First Baptist Church, Mountain Home, officiating. Burial was in Harrison, at the Maplewood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Gideons International or to Hospice of the Ozarks.

She was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Clinton. Her parents were the late Monroe Von and Rosa Jane Megee Shofner. Augusta was a graduate of Clinton High School and in later years attended Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Missouri. On Nov. 17, 1941, Augusta married James Donald Olsen at Bethel Baptist Church in Morrilton. The Olsens spent their 60 years together living in Chicago, Illinois, Harrison, Kansas City and Springfield, Missouri, moving to Mountain Home in 1997. Augusta was a Flavor Seal Cookware Distributor; co-owner with her husband of Southside Grocery in Lead Hill and of Streamline Products, which made railroad lanterns in Springfield, Missouri. She was an antiques dealer owning several shops. She was currently a member of Edith Mitchell's Ladies' Sunday School class at First Baptist Church. Both she and Jim were members of First Baptist Church, Mountain Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Olsen; a sister, Dosia Williams and four brothers, Aud, Pem, Dale and Milburn Shofner.

Augusta is survived by her three children, Donna Bowers, of Mountain Home, James Olsen, of Western Grove, and John Olsen, of Springfield, Missouri; a granddaughter, Jennifer Olsen, of Mt. Judea and a great-granddaughter, Mesa Olsen, of Mt. Judea.
