Jasper to face Shirley in state tournament

GREERS FERRY — The Jasper Lady Pirates are headed to the Class 1A State Softball Tournament.
The squad will face Shirley in action on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Greers Ferry Westside is hosting the tournament with games being played in Heber Springs as well. The opening Jasper contest is in Greers Ferry.
Shirley has had a successful season. The Lady Blue Devils are 15-5 overall and lost in the finals of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament, 4-2, to Concord.
Jasper finished third in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament held in Harrison.
The Lady Pirates defeated Lead Hill in the consolation bracket, 21-16.
In the first round of the tournament, the Lady Pirates defeated Mulberry, 18-8. In the semifinals, Jasper fell to Scranton, 15-0.
The Lady Pirates can score runs. The squad has scored 15 or more runs nine times in their 18 games.

Jasper is 7-11 on the season.
As Jasper can score runs, they can give up trips around the bases as well. They have given up 15 or more runs on 11 occasions this season.
On April 16 and 25, the Lady Pirates scored 22 runs for their season high. Both games were against Omaha.
Jasper gave up 26 runs to Class 3A Green Forest on April 5. Class 2A Hector scored 23 against the Lady Pirates on Feb. 29.
